We therefore urge the RSF to cease the abduction of civilians, as it is a clear violation of international humanitarian law and poses a direct threat to civilian lives and community stability. We also call on the international community, the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and all relevant parties to fulfill their moral and humanitarian duties toward the civilian population in Darfur. On July 31, 2025, around 10:00 am, a group of unidentified armed men in a vehicle abducted Mr. Khalid Sheikh Eldien at gunpoint. Mr. Khalid, a pharmacist, was kidnapped in front of one of his pharmacies, Kanz Aldwa, located on Cinema Street in the central part of Nyala. Mr. Khalid owns more than two pharmacies in Nyala in Ibn Al-Haytham and Alrazi. Later, the kidnappers contacted his family, demanding a ransom of 20,0000,000 Sudanese Pounds for his release. Still, they did not comply and instead reached out to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), urging them to take responsibility and free him since Nyala is under their control.
Two hours later, (July 31, 2025, around noon), a group of armed men in a Land Cruiser abducted pharmacist Mr. Abdul Samie Adam Ahmed on the main street as he was heading to his pharmacy on Cinema Street in Nyala. A reliable source told ACJPS, “Mr. Adam’s family searched for him in all RSF detention centers in Nyala but in vain. They have not been able to locate him to date.” Mr. Adam owns “The Pharmacy of Pharmacists” in Nyala, and RSF has used his pharmacy to obtain medical supplies for their injured fighters. Another source added that recently, there was a misunderstanding/dispute between Mr. Adam and RSF over medication receipts. The source explained that Mr. Adam told the RSF that they owed him 90,000,000 Sudanese Pounds, but the RSF disagreed and claimed that the debt was 70 million SDP.
On August 3, 2025, RSF intelligence operatives in two military vehicles arrested and detained at least 20 local traders from their homes and transferred them to Eid Alfersan prison, located about 20Kilometers south of Nyala. Eid Alfersan was the former South Darfur capital. According to a reliable source, the detainees refused to donate funds towards the ceremony marking the announcement of the Tasis parallel government in Nyala on August 2, 2025. Their refusal came after they had previously donated multiple times, including a recent donation to support RSF’s injured soldiers. Another source told ACJPS that the reason for their refusal was an accusation that they received funding from the Port Sudan government to be passed on to public servants in Eid Alfersan and Kaboum areas of South Darfur.
Some of the detainees are: Ibrahim Salih, Mohamed Iberies, Abdul Aziz Mohamed Mahmoud, Fadil Mohamed Ibrahim, Hamid Mubashar, Alhadi Ali, Hassan Ali, Mustafa Osman, Bashar Ahmed, Noor Aldiem Ismail, Dakeen Aljali Dodeen, Ahmed Abdul Rahman, Ahmed Hema (the main hall seal tender), Samir Abdul Gadir, Murtada Jalal, Jamal Eldein Isa, and Abdul Rahman Jebreel.
In another event, on the same day, July 31, 2025, RSF intelligence in Nyala arrested Mr. Ali Alsidiq, the manager of the Nile Bank branch in Nyala. The reason, according to a reliable source, is that Mr. Ali is accused of receiving the bank employees’ salaries while living in Nyala and passing them along. It’s also worth noting that RSF considers Nile Bank to be part of the Sudanese government, operating from Port Sudan.
Background
The RSF took control of Nyala shortly after the outbreak of the ongoing conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Their control of the city has been marked by brutal human rights abuses against civilians. In July 2025, the paramilitary group announced the formation of a parallel government in Nyala, appointing Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo as the head of a newly established 15-member presidential council. The parallel government is part of an alliance called Tasis, formed in February 2025 when the RSF, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), and other political and civil groups signed a charter in Nairobi, Kenya. The alliance has since created a 31-member leadership council and adopted bylaws. Key members of the alliance include SPLM-N leader Abdelaziz al-Hilu as Vice Chairperson, Alaa Eldin Awad as the official spokesperson, and Makeen Hamid as Secretary.
