In August 2026, Sudan witnessed a continued deterioration in security, human rights, and humanitarian conditions, with an escalation of aerial bombardments, drone attacks, and armed clashes. Killings, the targeting of civilians, and arbitrary arrests and detentions also continued. The most significant events were concentrated in Darfur, Kordofan, and BlueNile states, resulting in civilian casualties and the displacement of large numbers of people.
The humanitarian situation worsened due to the decline in health services, the closure of medical facilities, and shortages of medicine, fuel, electricity, and water. Cholera, malaria, and other diseases spread. Rising food prices and disruptions to trade and aid exacerbated food insecurity, while rains and floods worsened the situation for displaced people in several areas.
